SUSHI

Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish that consists of vinegared rice combined with various ingredients such as raw fish, vegetables, and egg. Here is a basic recipe for making sushi rolls at home:

Ingredients:

2 cups sushi rice

2 cups water

2 Tbsp rice vinegar

2 Tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

Nori sheets

Fillings of your choice (raw fish, cooked shrimp, avocado, cucumber, etc.)

Instructions:

Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.

In a medium-sized pot, combine the rice and water and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and simmer for 18-20 minutes.

Remove from heat and let the rice sit for 10 minutes with the lid on.

In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat the mixture over low heat until the sugar and salt are dissolved.

Transfer the cooked rice to a large mixing bowl. Slowly pour the vinegar mixture over the rice and gently fold it in.

Let the rice cool to room temperature.

Place a nori sheet on a sushi mat with the shiny side facing down.

Spread a thin layer of the rice over the nori sheet, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.

Add your desired fillings on top of the rice.

Roll the sushi tightly using the mat, tucking in the fillings as you roll.

Use a sharp knife to cut the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces.

You can also make different variations of sushi rolls, such as temaki (hand rolls) or maki (cut rolls), or try different fillings such as cooked chicken, tofu or even fruits.

Sushi is best served with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger. Enjoy your homemade sushi!
